Pakistan’s agriculture development crucial for economic growth: minister

ISLAMABAD, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) — Pakistan’s Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal said on Sunday that the agriculture sector is the backbone of Pakistan’s economy and its development is crucial for the country’s economic future.
Highlighting the country’s potential to significantly boost its resources through agricultural exports, the minister said during an exhibition that agriculture development is the only way to effectively address the current economic challenges faced by the country.
Pakistan is working towards increasing exports from 30 billion U.S. dollars to 100 billion U.S. dollars in coming years, he said, emphasizing that Pakistan would capitalize on global trends by developing its national brands to foster growth and increase revenue in the agricultural sector.
“Creating a strong Made-in-Pakistan brand with focus on quality is the need of the hour. The government is working towards improving agricultural production, particularly in dairy, for alleviating farmers’ difficulties,” Iqbal said.
The government has launched a transformative “Green Revolution” initiative, which would leverage technological advancements to enhance agricultural productivity and drive national development, the minister said. ■
